Betty Zine - Sustain - Cover and Background Interview

My full name is Samantha Jayne Poots, known as Poots and I am a rural girl navigating through a world of change. I was born and bred in Central North Island, based around the mountains. As a family, we explored what was in our backyard and adventured out on our own. The opportunities were all there – skiing, hiking and exploring the bush and streams. We were like little wildlings. I think that is partially why I have an affinity for nature.

As an adult, I was fortunate enough to meet someone who is just as nature-driven as me. We are currently based on the family farm in Central Hawke's Bay, nestled under the Ruahine Ranges. The ranges and definitely the cold remind me of where I grew up and yet again I am drawn into our environment, this time with my partner. We go searching for adventures - snow skiing, touring, or hiking and taking everything in. During the warmer months, we’re bathing in salt water, surfing, or free-diving.

I'm currently a full-time artist working from my home studio........
